5 Spice Powder
Hi Chefs, Myka here 👋
Isn’t it great when you can tell that fall is right around the corner? With the season of pumpkin-flavored treats, crisp apples, and dishes featuring root vegetables here, it’s the perfect time to whip up this 5 Spice Powder. Excellent for recipes like our 5 Spice Mini Apple Pies, this spice blend will give dishes the perfect “fall flavor” you’re looking for.
This recipe is a simple one: first, add your whole star anise pods, cinnamon stick, fennel seeds, whole cloves, and whole Szechuan peppercorns to a dry skillet. Heat over medium until fragrant, taking care not to burn the spices (or else you’ll end up with a bitter flavor).
Then, simply grind to a fine powder, using a blender, spice grinder, or mortar and pestle. Store in an airtight container, and enjoy.
Happy cooking!
